Fill a PDF form online for free
Open a fillable PDF, type into its fields, tick the boxes, sign where needed, and download the finished form. The file never leaves your browser.
Everything runs in your browser. Your PDF and what you type are never uploaded to PDFGate.
How it works
- Step 1Open your PDF formDrop the file on the page or pick it from your device. Every text field, checkbox, radio button, dropdown, and signature field is detected.
- Step 2Fill in the fieldsClick a field on the document and type. Values already in the form are kept, and signature fields open the signature dialog.
- Step 3Download the filled PDFKeep the fields editable, or flatten the form so the values become part of the page and can't be changed.
What this tool does, and what it doesn't
This tool fills the fields a PDF already has. It is the right choice for a form that someone sent you to complete and return. If the PDF is a flat scan without fields, it has nothing to fill.
- Fills text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns, and list boxes
- Adds a typed or uploaded signature to signature fields
- Keeps values that were already in the form and respects read-only fields
- Flattens the form on request so the values can't be edited later
- Works on multi-page PDFs up to 50 MB, entirely in your browser
- Does not add fields to a PDF that has none
- Does not fill XFA forms, which only Adobe products fully support
- Does not open password-protected PDFs
- Does not add a digital certificate or an audit log
Only need to sign? The Sign PDF tool places a signature on any page, with or without signature fields.
Create fillable PDFs from your own product
The PDFGate API turns HTML inputs into real PDF form fields with one parameter. The same API reads the values back out of a completed form, flattens it, and collects signatures with an audit log. Build it against the sandbox, then switch keys.

Learn more about PDFGate.
No. The PDF is opened, filled, and saved with JavaScript in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to PDFGate or any other server. If you close the tab, the file and the values are gone.
The PDF has no form fields, which is common for scanned documents and for PDFs exported from a word processor without a form layer. There is nothing for this tool to fill. If you only need to add a signature, the Sign PDF tool works on any PDF.
Flattening draws the values into the page and removes the form fields, so the completed form looks the same in every viewer and can't be edited. Leave it off if the recipient should still be able to change the values.
Yes. Latin text uses the form's own font. For Greek, Cyrillic, and other scripts the tool embeds a Unicode font so the text renders correctly in every viewer.
The form marks them as read-only, usually because the sender filled them in advance. The tool keeps their values and does not let you change them.
Use the PDFGate API. It converts HTML with standard input elements into a PDF with real form fields, reads the values back from a completed form, flattens it, and can send it for signature. There is a sandbox environment and a 14-day free trial.
